Center/Program Highlights:The NCNPR conducts basic and applied multidisciplinary research to discover and develop natural products for use as pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and agrochemicals, and to understand the biological and chemical properties of medicinal plants. Research is also conducted on medicinal plants so that they may be developed as crops for U.S. farmers. NCNPR programs involve the faculty of the Depts of Pharmacognosy, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutics in the School of Pharmacy. The Center works closely with the Center for Food Safetly and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on critical issues relating to quality and safety of marketed products. Studies on plants have resulted in two marketed botanical products and two products undergoing clinical trials.
