Center/Program Highlights: The Biotechnology and Drug Discovery Laboratory at the Center for Healthcare Innovation is a research and training facility exploring therapeutic disease targets of interest and identifying model compounds that could be used as structure/activity entry points and scaffold platforms in drug discovery projects. 12scientists formerly employed at Roche, Merck and Novartis, with extensive experience in biotechnology and drug discovery have joined Stevens as faculty and research associates to operate this facility. The team includes five individuals with over 150 years of combined R&D experience in pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporate laboratories. This facility provides students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in biotechnology and drug discovery and development. It also provides industry collaborators with a local academic partner for workforce training as well as a research resource for protein structure based and in silico drug screening and discovery, assay development and robotic drug screening as well as preclinical gene cloning and purification of therapeutic proteins.
