Center/Program Highlights: The Center for Protein Therapeutics (CPT) is an academic facility funded by an industry consortium. Membership fees provided by industry sponsors are administered by the University at Buffalo Research Foundation and used to fund research projects directed by SoPPS faculty. The mission of the Center is to advance the application of pharmaceutical science to the development of protein drugs, and the Center attempts to achieve this mission through provision of structured training programs and through the conduct of leading-edge research. Trainees include: graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and visiting scientists from the pharmaceutical industry. Research projects address basic science questions of general interest for the development of protein therapeutics. CPT sponsors have included: Abbott, Amgen, Boehringer Ingelheim, Eli Lilly, Genentech, Merck, Pfizer, and Roche. The annual budget of the CPT is approximately $1.2m.
