Institute for Therapeutics Discovery and Development

Therapeutic Approaches: Small Molecules

Therapeutic Areas of Expertise: Neurological Disorders, Oncology, Psychiatric Disorders, HIV, Non-Hormonal Male Contraception, Infectious Diseases

Center/Program Highlights: Institute for Therapeutics Discovery and Development is a research center within the College of Pharmacy with a mission to enhance the biomedical research infrastructure and create opportunities for drug discovery and early pre-clinical drug development through interdisciplinary research collaboration between various schools, colleges and research centers. The Institute consists of five scientific cores (Medicinal Chemistry, High-Throughput Screening, Lead and Probe Discovery, Pharmacology and Biomarkers, and Therapeutics Process Development). Institute?s state-of-the-art research facilities include chemical and biological laboratories, analytical laboratory, NMR laboratory, API manufacturing suite, kilogram scale synthetic laboratory, protein production and purification facility (in collaboration with Biotechnology Institute), high-throughput screening laboratory, cell-culture laboratory, and biological safety level 3 (BSL 3) facility. The Institute currently offers scientific services and collaborations in synthetic and medicinal chemistry, protein structure based and computational drug design, protein-based, cell-based and high-content high-throughput screening (HTS), HTS assay development, design, rapid synthesis and high-throughput purification and analysis of novel chemical libraries, chemical processes development and optimization, scale-up, API manufacturing under GMP conditions (up to a kg scale), therapeutic protein development and manufacturing under cGMP conditions, analytical method development. Support in other areas of drug discovery and development is available through partnerships with other academic research centers and private companies. The ITDD is a member of the NCI Chemical Biology Consortium and is home to one of its four Chemical Diversity Centers.
